Color Shaping Technique


Color Shaping is a very easy and effective way of producing a soft variance of shades when a client insists on a global color. We can add our signature without it necessarily being obvious.



Color Shaping

1. Create two separate areas, one to accommodate the natural crown area and one to encompass the perimeter with a ‘dart’ across the top.


2. Take a part from ear to ear across the back just under the occipital bone, have it dip at the center.


3. At the front one inch back and, following the natural hairline make a parting.


4. Begin in the nape and apply the Base formula to all the hair outside of the ‘liquid drop.

5. Mix and apply Formula 1 to zone 1, the roots in the nape, front and ‘dart’ areas, be sure to contain the formula within the partings.

6.Mix and apply Formula 2 to zone 1, the roots in the crown area and again, be sure to contain the formula within the partings.

7. Now mix and apply Formula 1 to zone 2, the lengths and ends in the nape, front and ‘dart’ areas. when using a cream formula foil between the top and bottom sections may not be necessary

8. Finally mix and apply Formula 2 to zone 2, the lengths and ends in the crown area.

9. At room temperature, allow the color to develop for approximately 20 minutes.

10. When done use Redken Color Extend to shampoo and condition… then style..

This recommended formula is ideal for a beautiful, rich redhead at a level 6.

Formula 1:

  • Redken Shades EQ Cream
    05BR Garnet Sand- 1oz +
  • Redken Pro-Oxide 10 volume- 1 oz

Formula 2:

  • Redken Shades EQ Cream
    07RR Strawberry Lemonade- 1/2 oz +
  • Redken Shades EQ Cream
    06 C Shiny Penny- 1/2 oz +
  • Redken Pro-oxide 10 volume- 1 oz
