I’m a big fan of educating our clients on all of the advantages of box color versus salon color. I am also a big fan of using positive words, not negative words. I don’t like to trash talk an idea, service or product. That will get us no where. Clients will make the right decisions when they are properly informed. When I’m talking to stylists about how to educate their clients on the benefits of salon color versus box color, here are a few pointers that I always use:
Box color is manufactured to be suitable for anyone and everyone. In reality, we know that our hair is as unique as our fingerprints. Our hair has different textures, porosity levels, strengths and weaknesses. Not to mention some of us have chemically or mechanically damaged hair which requires greater care and attention when coloring.
All of these factors will affect the end result of color. When you select a box color, it is not likely that the color on the box is what you will achieve at home, for the many reasons mentioned above. Yes, it is possible to get great color from a box, but on the other hand, it could be a disaster.
Many factors need to be taken into account when coloring your hair. The end result of hair color is based on what your existing color is, what your natural color is, if you have had any other chemical services that day and whether or not you have existing chemical or mechanical damage–not just the picture you see on the box.
When you go to a salon, you are receiving a tailor-made formula based on all of the above factors. That’s why you can expect excellent results time after time. There is no guessing involved.
